Outside My Window: Nature Calls
April 26th, 2011

Addition's current progress.

Since my last post, quite a bit has been done. Our new handicap accessible porch ramp was added, the roof was finished and shingled, all plumbing and electrical lines were ran, our audio visual and data lines were ran, and we passed all of our inspections by the city! We’re good to go. Now it’s onto the details. We got all of our windows measured and ordered (they’re going to be awesome, by the way). Today I went out to snap a few photos of the progress and we had a few of our excellent Master Installers (Trent and James) out installing some vinyl soffits and aluminum “fascia board.”. They are looking great and have really helped tie in the existing structure with the new addition.

Apex Master Installer, Trent, making the installation look easy.

Finished product.

As I was walking back to the office I noticed something in the parking lot; lurking in the shadows. And I thought, “Wait a second… could it be?” And now I know for sure… it was a snapping turtle. Not the biggest I’ve seen in my life but he was up there. I can remember growing up these guys used to eat all of our fish we’d stock in our small pond. Of course it caused quite a bit of commotion here at the Apex Energy Solutions headquarters. We thought maybe he was confused by the fact that our addition looks like Noah’s Ark, and with all this rain lately he was worried about a flood. The second thought was that maybe he knew about all of our eco-friendly features that have been incorporated into the new addition of the Apex Living Showroom: such as our retention pond. Rumor on the street is that it is THE place to be. Unfortunately for him, the retention pond isn’t quite ready to accept wildlife of his stature and we decided to transport him to the nearest body of water we could find. The Zionsville community swimming pool. Just kidding! There’s a park near here with a creek that ties into Eagle Creek. We thought he’d be happier there, for now. Although, I won’t be surprised if he comes back!

We’re supposed to be having all of our soy based foam insulation installed on Thursday. Stay tuned for what should be some exciting photos from that. Also, if you haven’t visited it yet. We’ve got a new Apex Testimonials site up and running featuring testimonials from actual Apex homeowners. We’ll be continually improving upon and updating this site so bookmark it! Thanks again, and from everyone here at Apex, we hope you had a wonderful Earth Day last Friday, and an awesome holiday weekend!

Once again Bram, a well written piece. Do you take that after your mother?

The office is coming along so nicely! I can’t wait to see the finished product. And that snapper! How cool is that?

We’ve yet to meet, Bram, but thanks for these updates on the new addition @ Apex Energy Solutions. We’re the folks at Blackstone Edge Studios in Portland, Oregon, who have worked with Michael and, of course, AMI. Watch out handling that snapping turtle! The Oregonian just ran an article on a miniature African Dwarf Frog that actually poses comically. Fortunately, a breeder in California voluntarily stopped selling the little guys, because they have transmitted over 200 cases of salmonella from here to Massachusetts! Apparently, turtles and other amphibians and reptiles like these frogs all carry salmonella. (Who knew?) So wash your hands! And good luck with the soy based foam insulation. We look forward to working with you soon!

We had a 35 pound snapper taken out of our marsh a few years ago. Pretty big boy.

  7. Patty says:

It’s so exciting to see the progression of the new addition! Apex’s living showroom will be one of a kind. Also LOVED the turtle! He even knows how “green” the showroom is going to be! Congrats to all.

  8. michael says:

Should’ve sprayed an “Apex” logo on him and sent him on his way—slow but effective advertising. Everything is green at Apex—-even your turtles!

  9. Amanda says:

    Bram,

I’m surprised you were brave enough to get that close! Gives me the creeps just looking at it. Poor thing. Hope you didn’t get the job of transporting him to his new home ;) .

I love the updates, but really enjoy hearing about the little things happening that are keeping smiles on your faces during the renovation process. I am excited to see the final pictures of the Ark!

  14. Mike says:

An unofficial mascot? I say we should keep him around.
